iPhone 13 features a different design for the rear camera

Indian tech blog MySmartPrice has obtained 3D models of what it claims will be the standard iPhone 13 model, revealing a familiar design with some notable changes, including a smaller notch and a different new rear camera design.  The site says it received the samples from "industrial sources" and did not name them.

These leaks provide some insight into the direction Apple will take in 2021. Unsurprisingly, the company won't change the design this year, following the old format it revealed in 2020. The iPhone 13 will also remain the same design as the old iPhone 5S  Which is combined with the iPhone X and newer edge-to-edge screens, the standard iPhone 13 will have a 6.1-inch screen.

Will the iPhone 13 have two front cameras?

Despite rumors that the upcoming iPhone will come with a smaller notch, the surprise this time is in the design, which is the presence of three holes for the cameras in the front.  Technically like current iPhones, it has slots for each FaceID dot matrix display, an infrared camera and the main front camera.  Thus, the usual position is two holes to the left of the notch, with the earpiece in the middle, and another hole for the camera to the right of the notch.  In this image, the three slots are placed next to each other, which raises the question of why Apple would choose such a design unless it wants to put two cameras on the front this year!  The earpiece is placed over these three holes for the camera.  Or put it in Alfram, as was rumored, as we mentioned in a previous article.

With this design, the notch will be crowded this time.  There is a fourth slot, which may house the other sensors, such as the ambient light sensor, proximity, etc.

 iPhone 13 rear cameras

The rear cameras were also placed diagonally, not vertically, as in the current design of the iPhone 12, but it does not seem that Apple will change the general specifications.  We still have four slots, two for the cameras, and two more for the flash and noise-canceling mic.  It seems that there is no place for the sensor LIDAR in the iPhone 13 standard, which is limited to the versions Pro only.

It's not clear why the rear cameras are placed diagonally on the iPhone 13, or whether this design will extend to the iPhone 13 mini, but there are several camera changes rumored on the iPhone 13 models that may necessitate a change.  In January, for example, supply chain news site DigiTimes reported that sensor-shift optical image stabilization would be extended to the entire iPhone 13 lineup.

 other details

The overall dimensions of the iPhone 13 are exactly the same as the iPhone 12, which is 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.6 mm.  Previous reports indicated that Apple will introduce a more energy-efficient display on this year's models, leading to an increase in the phone's battery life overall.  The new LTPO OLED displays are also expected to offer variable refresh rates, perhaps another feature that will be reserved for Pro models.

MySmartPrice doesn't have a track record of rumors about future Apple products, so this leak should be treated with some skepticism until it is supported by other sources.  Apple is currently expected to unveil the iPhone 13 lineup in September as usual, so we're still several months away from the devices becoming official.
